THE IMPORTANCE OF LYMPH DRAINAGE FOR GOOD
HEALTH
The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our
body's ability to drain stagnant fluids, detoxify, regenerate
tissues, filter out toxins and foreign substances, and maintain a
healthy immune system (Asdonk,1970, Adair and Guyton,1982). It is a
complex system comprised primarily of lymph vessels and nodes working
in cooperation to accomplish these tasks.
Unlike the circulatory system, which uses the pumping of the heart to
circulate blood flow, lymph vessels rely upon hundreds of tiny muscular units (lymphangions) contracting throughout the body to
propel the lymph flow (Mislin,1961). These contractions enable the
lymph vessels to transport numerous substances
(proteins, toxins, hormones, fatty acids, immune cells) to the lymph
nodes, which can process them. The action of these muscular units can
be hindered or stopped, however, due to surgery, trauma, burns,
infections, substantial swelling, fatigue, stress or age. When the lymph circulation stagnates,
fluids, proteins, cells and toxins accumulate and cellular functioning is significantly
compromised (Adair, Guyton 1982). This may open the way to many physical ailments and hasten the aging process.
Lymphatic drainage is a hands- on technique designed to attain and
sustain proper functioning of the human fluid system. The LDT process
involves the use of gentle manual maneuvers to aid in the
recirculation of body fluids. While the exact amount of pressure
applied depends on the area and pathology involved, it averages an extremely light five grams, or the equivalent weight of a nickel. The
process is very pleasurable and induces deep states of relaxation.
THE BENEFITS OF LYMPH DRAINAGE THERAPY
Lymph Drainage Therapy works to help recirculate body fluids, stimulate functioning of the immune system, and balance the
autonomic nervous system. Some common applications are:
-
Reduction in edemas (swelling) and lymphedemas of many origins
-
Relief of chronic and subacute inflammation and conditions such as
acne,eczema and allergies
-
Immune system stimulation for preventative and therapeutic effects
-
Regeneration of tissues (from burns and pre and post-surgial
scarring) and anti-aging effects
-
Detoxification of the body
-
Relief of chronic pain
-
Deep relaxation to aid insomnia, depresssion, stress, loss of vitality,
and loss of memory
-
Antispastic actions to relieve conditions such as voluntary or in
voluntary muscle hypertonus ( spasms)
-
Reduction in the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia
-
Allleviation of adiposis and cellulite tissue
CRANIOSACRAL
THERAPY
CranioSacral Therapy is a light -touch therapy that can create
significant improvements in a person's life. It releases tensions deep
in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction to improve whole body
health and performance.
Few body structures have more influence over your health and well-being than the central nervous
system. Few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the craniosacral system;
the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord.
Everyday stresses and strains are endured that the body absorbs. The
body can handle only so much tension before the tissues begin to
tighten and potentially affect the brain and spinal cord.
Unfortunately, this can compromise the function of the central nervous
system and the performance of nearly every other system in the body.
CranioSacral Therapy releases those tensions to allow the entire body
to relax and self- correct. Using a gentle touch, the therapist evaluates your internal environment. Then light touch techniques are
used to release any restrictions that are found.
By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best;
CranioSacral Therapy naturally eliminates pain and stress, strengthens resistance to disease and enhances health and well-being.
Since it is such a gentle therapy, it can be effective for all ages
of people from newborns to the elderly.
CranioSacral Therapy can be used to treat pain, illness and dysfunction
including:
-
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
-
Brain and spinal cord dysfunction
